About Gems
G.E.M.S. is a Christian organisation, run by volunteers, with a programme that is created especially for girls from ages 9-15. Some G.E.M.S. groups also include a programme called Busy Bees for girls ages 6-8. G.E.M.S. groups usually meet weekly or fortnightly and are run by Christian women who are members of the Christian Reformed Church of Australia.
The name G.E.M.S. stands for Girls Everywhere Meeting the Saviour. This name represents both the mission and vision of G.E.M.S. Girls’ Clubs. The mission of G.E.M.S. is to help bring girls into a living, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. The vision of G.E.M.S. is to see girls actively and enthusiastically expressing love for God and others by equipping and encouraging them to live out their faith.
The Bible is central to the G.E.M.S. programme. At each meeting the girls are asked ‘What does the Lord require of us?’ All girls respond with the answer ‘To act justly , to love kindness and to walk humbly with our God’ (Micah 6:8) Part of each G.E.M.S. evening is set aside to learn from God’s Word, either in group Bible studies or from Bible talks by the leaders.
Other activities that the girls will have the opportunity to participate in include:
- Badge work
- Games, craft, drama and singing
- Serving others in activities that may include, for example, visiting nursing homes
- Outings such as swimming, walks and other recreational activities
- Club or state camps
- The G.E.M.S. programme is divided into 3 different levels:
- Busy Bees (Awareness) : for girls aged 6-8
- Discovery level: for girls aged 9-13
- Advanced level: for girls aged 13-15
Each level is designed to meet the spiritual, social, physical and emotional needs of girls. Girls learn how to apply the teaching of the Bible to their own lives and discover answers for the challenges facing them today.
2024 Theme
This year’s theme is “Amazing,” based on Joshua 3:5. Throughout this year the kids will be reminded of a few things:
- that God is holy
- we must prepare ourselves if we are to be in His presence
- that God has done, is doing, and will do amazing things.
These reminders will help the kids strive to be holy and recognize the many ways in which God blesses them. We challenge you to be an example to your club – look for, find, and share the many amazing things God is doing.
Show your kids that God is amazing as you encourage them to live for Jesus.
